Data collection is the most important thing you can do to increase the viability of your contact list. If you can look in your database and tell someone’s age, marital status, income level, profession, interests/likes, voting history, then you can craft your pitch precisely to their interests.
The only problem that I run into when advising clients about this approach is that everything involving database work is extremely time consuming and boring – it is not cool or flashy, or even something you can brag about. Database work is tireless work in front of a computer that nobody will know about.
